Quotations from Triple Crown Leadership
“The case is building for a new brand of leadership.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Ethical leadership is tested most under duress.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Do not compromise on the ethical imperative…. Leaders have to draw the line.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“We are all flawed. Since we all make mistakes, we are wise to solicit help and input from others as sounding boards and accountability agents. Heated debates occur among reasonable people who can disagree on what is ethical.
Such debates can be healthy and help maintain the ethical imperative.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Ethical fortitude relies heavily on courage to face adversity and social pressure.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Organizations must also create systems and processes for instilling ethics into the enterprise, covering all aspects of the operation, from recruiting and rewarding people to reporting abuses and maintaining transparency.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“The key to building a triple crown organization is not in the hands of a single ‘super-leader’ but rather in the hands, minds, and hearts of ordinary people who become extraordinary leaders and stewards of the culture of character.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“A healthy constructive culture by no means guarantees success,
but it provides the foundation for building an excellent, ethical, and enduring organization.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Triple crown leadership employs a different approach (than delegation or traditional empowerment initiatives): proactive development of leaders automatically empowered by the organization’s colors and culture of character. With this approach, the shared values and vision guide the leaders. They operate in a more developed state of empowerment, in which the freedom to act is not granted by a higher authority but is instead expected in the culture and enabled by the colors. People in the organization, regardless of title, have an automatic license to act and lead, as long as they do so in accordance with the organization’s colors and culture of character. Armed with such triple crown empowerment—backed with resources, training, and support they need—they can achieve exceptional results.
They feel a visceral connection with the organization, wanting to give it their all.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Stewards model the desired behavior of the enterprise. They work on the business, not just in it. Stewards actively step outside their functional positions to influence to how others behave, and they reinforce the colors and culture. In so doing, they give the organization its soul.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Triple crown leaders watch for signs of integrity flaws in new recruits and colleagues, including excessive ambition, controlling behavior, hyper-competitiveness, bullying, narcissism, arrogance, or greed.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“When organizations are struggling or in crisis… the temptation to cut corners can be immense.
Desperate people do desperate things.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
“Leadership is a group performance, not a solo act.”
-Bob and Gregg Vanourek, Triple Crown Leadership
